Today, on 2nd November 2008, Under 12 World Gold Medallist Master Sayandan Das and Under 10 World number 4 Master Diptayan Ghosh returned from Vietnam. Master Diptayan Ghosh was also a Gold Medallist under 10 Asian Youth Chess Championship 2008. The officials of the Alekhine Chess Club and Goodricke National Chess Academy received them at the Station. They came straight to Gorky Sadan where Goodricke National Chess Academy arranged felicitation programme for them. At Gorky Sadan, Mr Alexander V. Mazirka, Director of Gorky Sadan, received them. Distinguished guests present during the felicitation programme were : Mr Alexander V. Mazirka – Director of Gorky Sadan, Mr Kumar Sankar Bagchi – President of Alekhine Chess Club and Managing Director of Bengal Peerless Housing Development Corporation, Mr. Udayan Kanti Ghosh, Joint Secretary, All India Chess Federation, Grandmaster Sandipan Chanda, It was told that The Telegraph Schools’ Chess Championship was the main talent searching event in Kolkata from where a number of players came into prominence like GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly, GM Sandipan Chanda, GM Neelotpal Das, WGM Nisha Mohota, WGM Merry Aan Gomes, IM Sankar Roy, IM Arghyadip Das, IM Saptarshi Roy and many others. They all received necessary chess coaching and training at Goodricke National Chess Academy of Alekhine Chess Club at Gorky Sadan. Mr Alexander V. Mazirka told in his speech that Gorky Sadan authority would continue its support and help Alekhine Chess Club for the promotion of the game of chess to young chess buddies. He also expressed his good wishes to Sayantan Das and Diptayan Ghosh. Mr Udayan Kanti Ghosh thanked Alekhine Chess Club for producing talents one after another and he also requested the media people to publicize this event as Bengal as well as India dominated the Asian and World events and that the uprising players needed to participate in different Events in the World to improve their games but most of the uprising players can not do so due to lack of sponsors. Mr Kumar Sankar Bagchi also requested the media people to publicize Chess in a greater way so that sponsors come forward to spend money for the upliftment of Indian Chess specially in Bengal. He also announced that he would try his level best to find sponsors for Sayantan Das and Diptayan Ghosh for further development of their capabilities, through Alekhine Chess Club. He thanked Gorky Sadan Authority for their continuous support and co-operation, The Telegraph for their continuous sponsorship of the Schools’ Chess Championship, Goodricke Group Limited for sponsoring the Academy at Gorky Sadan and all others who came forward for the development of the game of Chess in Bengal particularly at Gorky Sadan. He expressed his sincere thanks to All India Chess federation under the leadership of Mr. D.V. Sundar for their support to Alekhine Chess Club. Grandmaster Sandipan Chanda was happy with the results of these two kids and informed that he would help out them at Gorky Sadan whenever he is free. He also informed that he could not receive Gold Medal in any World events in his childhood and that he and other Grandmasters from Bengal had to work very hard due to lack of sponsorship. He suggested Sayantan Das and Ditayan Ghosh to continue hard work and to play in different world events. International Master Saptarshi Roy who coached the kids, mentioned that most of the time players like this stature are lost when they grow up because they were unable to participate in different chess meets in this world. But it is essential for them to participate in such tournaments to develop their games. Even proper practical coaching can not be given due to lack of fund. He also requested the media people to come forward to publicize the game of chess in Bengal in such a way so that Corporate Sector comes forward to donate required fund for the uprising players like Sayantan Das and Diptayan Ghosh. He informed that both Sayantan Das and Diptayan Ghosh have potentiality to be the Grandmasters from Bengal. Mr Kumar Sankar Bagchi, Mr Alexander V. Mazirka, Grandmaster Sandipan Chanda and Mr Udayan Kanti Ghosh handed over Uttorio, Silver Salver, Flower bouquets, Gifts to Sayantan Das and Diptayan Ghosh. Master Diptayan Ghosh won the Gold Medal at the under 10 Asian Youth Chess Championship held in Turkey few months ago and Master Sayantan Das won the Gold Medal in the under 12 World Youth Chess Championship held in Vietnam just a few days ago. Mr Kumar Sankar Bagchi handed over a cheque of Rs 50,000/- (fifty thousand) to Master Sayantan Das. Master Sayantan Das already received one good laptop from the organizers in Vietnam. The organizers thanked all who were present at the felicitation programme. Alekhine Chess Club at Gorky Sadan also arranged light refreshments for all who attended the programme. |
