visit our web site. It is one of
the oldest chess clubs in India
promoting the game of chess since
1976.
The
Club at Gorky Sadan, Kolkata
The
club, housed in the famous Gorky Sadan, Kolkata
courtesy the then Soviet Union, and named after the
former world champion, Alexander Alekhine, was
launched by a few chess enthusiasts on 26th February
1976.
Since
inception, the club took active role to strengthen
Indo-Russian Friendship and is imparting the education
on chess to young children and also started organizing
different level of tournaments including schools'
chess championships, world youth international,
grandmasters' chess, rapid chess and many other events
- it is a record that more than 200 grand masters took
part in different events organized by the club at
Gorky Sadan, Kolkata.

for creating history for the country by winning
the World Junior and World Junior Girls titles
respectively, at Turkey-2008. We are doubly
proud of these World Champions and wish them
further glory.
